A modulation or inflection of the voice; the rhythm or flow of sounds or words. In music, a sequence of chords marking the end of a phrase.
Etymology
From Latin "cadentia" (a falling), from "cadere" (to fall). Musical phrases "fall" to their conclusion, as does the voice at sentence end.
