Relating to the period of the Dog Star (Sirius) or to the hottest days of summer, called the "dog days." Associated with sultry, oppressive heat.
Etymology
From Latin "canicularis" (pertaining to the Dog Star), from "canicula" (little dog), diminutive of "canis" (dog). The Dog Star Sirius rises with the sun in late summer.
